Flyers Playoff Chances: What Philadelphia Must Do To Clinch Wildcard Spot

The Philadelphia Flyers are on the verge of securing a playoff spot this season. Following their recent win over the Boston Bruins, they sit third in the Metropolitan Division with 90 points from 77 games, six points behind second place.

From here on out, the Flyers have a 54% chance of making the playoffs, though their fate also depends on results elsewhere. Breaking it down further, Philadelphia has a 1% probability of finishing second in the division and a 48% chance of finishing third—currently their most likely path to the postseason.

However, that position is far from secure. The New York Islanders (89 points) and Columbus Blue Jackets (88 points) are right behind them, both capable of stringing together wins and overtaking the Flyers for third place. The Washington Capitals (87 points) also remain in contention, with a realistic—if slimmer—chance of breaking into the top three.

Philadelphia’s primary concern is falling out of that top-three bracket. If that happens, their chances of qualifying via a wildcard spot drop to just 4%. As a result, securing a top-three finish is crucial to ending their postseason drought.

Historically, the Flyers have been one of the league’s more successful franchises, appearing in 39 postseasons over their 51-year history and recording 221 playoff wins. However, they are currently in the midst of a significant drought, having last reached the playoffs in 2020.

The 2025–26 season is nearing its conclusion, and the Philadelphia Flyers, currently hovering around a 50-50 chance of qualification, find themselves at a critical juncture.

Here’s a look at their remaining games:

New Jersey Devils (40–34–3) | Away | Tuesday, April 7 at 7:00 PM
Detroit Red Wings (40–29–8) | Away | Thursday, April 9 at 7:00 PM
    Winnipeg Jets (33–31–12) | Away | Saturday, April 11 at 7:00 PM
    Carolina Hurricanes (49–22–6) | Home | Monday, April 13 at 7:00 PM
    Montreal Canadiens (45–22–10) | Home | Tuesday, April 14 at 7:00 PM

With five games left, three on the road and two at home, the Flyers’ playoff hopes will likely be decided over this stretch.

The stakes are significant. Philadelphia has not made the playoffs since 2020, and if they miss out again this year, it would mark six consecutive seasons without a postseason appearance, the longest drought in franchise history.

The team already matched its previous record for the longest playoff drought during the 2024-25 season, tying the five-year stretch from 1989-90 to 1993-94. Now, they face the prospect of setting an outright franchise low.

Having remained in the playoff hunt for much of the season, the Flyers will be hoping to avoid that outcome by delivering strong performances down the stretch.
