Over the weekend, NHL legend Wayne Gretzky turned 65 and his family celebrated the special occasion with sweet birthday wishes.
On Instagram, Gretzky’s family shared intimate birthday tributes that captured the softer side of “The Great One.” His son Trevor Gretzky posted a photo of Wayne sitting outdoors with his grandson in his arms. The caption of the story read:
“Happy birthday dad @waynegretzky ❤️,” and featured ABBA’s Slipping Through My Fingers.
Gretzky later reposted the image on his own stories.
Wayne Gretzky’s youngest daughter Emma Gretzky also posted a birthday tribute featuring a sweet indoor scene. In the story, Wayne can be seen seated in a leather chair with his grandson Walter in the seat next to him, with a glowing Christmas tree in the background.
“Happy Birthday papa we love you ❤️,” Emma wrote in the caption.

Wayne and his wife Janet Jones Gretzky have five children, Paulina, Ty, Trevor, Tristan and Emma. Paulina, the eldest, is married to professional golfer Dustin Johnson and the couple have two sons, Tatum and River. Ty and his wife Sara have daughters Sicily and Vienna, while Trevor and his partner Ashley have two children, Phoenix and Wayne William. Emma welcomed her first son Walter Boone-Gretzky Eby with partner Stone Eby last year.
Wayne Gretzky Has Extended His Broadcasting Career
Late October, Wayne Gretzky secured his future with Turner Sports after the network reached a multiyear extension to keep the NHL legend on its studio coverage. The agreement was made public through NHL on TNT’s social media channels with Gretzky later reposting the announcement on his own Instagram stories.
“Excited to be back with the @nhlontnt team!” he wrote.
Gretzky first joined Turner Sports ahead of the 2021-22 NHL season as a lead studio analyst when the network re-entered the NHL broadcast space. While the financial terms of the extension were not disclosed, his initial deal was widely reported to be worth around $3 million per year.
Wayne Gretzky is widely regarded as the greatest hockey player in NHL history. Over a 20-season career, he played for the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers winning four Stanley Cups with the Oilers in 1984, 1985, 1987 and 1988. He holds the all-time NHL record for points at 2,857 and his 1,963 career assists remain unmatched.
Gretzky’s 894 goals stood as the NHL benchmark until Alex Ovechkin surpassed it in 2025. Among his other accolades, he won the Hart Trophy nine times and the Art Ross Trophy ten times.
