Mats Sundin is one of the most, if not the most, successful European NHL players in history. He played for three different teams during his career, but his stint with the Toronto Maple Leafs was the main highlight of his career.
Sundin was a part of the Leafs from 1994 until 2008, during which he accomplished numerous monumental feats. As a member of the team, the center scored 500 goals and managed to get a total of 1,000 points. He joined these two clubs in 2006, becoming the only Swedish player in history to accomplish this feat.
Sundin was well-known throughout his career for his excellent puck protection, strong leadership, and ability to score at crucial moments.
Mats Sundin subsequently went on to play two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks before hanging up his skates. Sundin appeared in 1,346 games over his decades-long career, scoring 564 goals and 785 assists for a total of 1,349 points.
At the time of his retirement, he also had the most NHL goals, assists, and points by a Swedish player. Later, Nicklas Lidstrom broke this record in some categories.
Sundin has made eight NHL All-Star appearances and even won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 1998. Following his huge career, he was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 2012.
Outside of the NHL, Mats Sundin has had considerable success, winning an Olympic gold medal in the 2006 Winter Olympics. He also won the World Championship gold three times during his career: in 1991, 1992, and 1998.
Interestingly, Sundin began setting records even before his career began, as he was the first European to be selected first overall in the 1989 NHL draft.

According to speculation, Sundin may meet with the team as early as Saturday. According to reports, the center is now in Toronto and has spoken with MLSE President Keith Pelley. Sundin might serve as an advisor to the team, given that he has past management expertise.
Mats Sundin was part of the management team for Team Sweden at the 2016 World Cup. He’s even worked as an analyst on Swedish television.
