With a disadvantage walking in, the Bruins had to devote all of their efforts to even the series against the Sabres. Viktor Arvidsson, Boston’s right winger who scored two goals, remarked that the entire team was fully engaged in the game. The 33-year-old added that they were skating much harder and were very focused on winning the game.

According to the NHL’s official website, Arvidsson said:

“I think we skated harder, and battled a little bit harder, and just had our heads over the puck, and won battles and used each other in close areas. That’s how we need to play to be successful. I think that we came out with that mindset and had a pretty good game.”

Even Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram acknowledged this, stating that the Bruins did come out too hard. He explained:

“They came out hard. They were forechecking a lot harder than they were in the last game. That’s not an excuse. We knew they were going to come out hard, but I think it just kind of took us a while to get going again. We’ve got to find a way to start games and take it to them in the first 10 (minutes).”

The Bruins performed well on attack and defense, with Jeremy Swayman making 34 saves.
