The matchup between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh is well known as The Battle of Pennsylvania. The two cities are barely 300 miles apart, but there are significant disparities between the people.
This is why the Flyers-Penguins faceoff is frequently referred to as a physical rather than tactical one. Both teams have been in excellent form this season, but Philadelphia has had the momentum.
From here on out, the Penguins have two games at home and one in Philadelphia, giving them a chance to mount a comeback. If the team hopes to win the first round of the playoffs, captain Sidney Crosby will undoubtedly play a key role, and so far, Crosby appears to be optimistic.
Sidney Crosby Discusses the Penguins’ First Win in the 2026 NHL Playoffs

The Penguins and Flyers finished their respective seasons in second and third place in the Metropolitan Division, respectively. While both teams had 98 points in 82 games, the Flyers finished on a three-game winning streak. In comparison, the Penguins had a three-game losing streak, utterly derailing their momentum.
Sidney Crosby discussed these things in an interview following their victory over the Flyers to keep their playoff hopes alive. The center noted that while this is only one win, it is plenty for them to build on. According to the NHL’s official website, Crosby said:
“It’s only one, but I think it gives us some life. That looked more like our game. It’s probably taken us three games to look like ourselves a bit. I think that’s something that we can definitely build on. Obviously, going home, it doesn’t get any easier. With every game in the series, it’s more difficult. But we’ve got some life, and we got to take advantage of the opportunity of going back home now.”
The last time these two teams faced off in the playoffs was in the 2018 Eastern Conference first round, where the Penguins won 4-2.
