The Buffalo Sabres recently made a memorable gesture for their captain, Rasmus Dahlin, when they hosted the Boston Bruins on March 25. While the team lost the game by a score of 4-3, they won the hearts of fans when they celebrated Dahlin’s fiancée’s return to the KeyBank Center.
Rasmus Dahlin has reportedly been in a relationship with Carolina Matovac for over ten years. The couple has been together since they were in their teens. Last year, however, Carolina suffered from sudden heart failure while vacationing in France.
Carolina spent several weeks on life support and later underwent life-saving heart transplant surgery. She had been recovering since in Sweden for the past few months before finally making her return to Buffalo to watch Dahlin in action. She received a roaring welcome from the home fans who cheered her on when she was shown on the Jumbotron.

Captain Rasmus Dahlin had a roller coaster of a game against the Bruins. On one hand, his fiancée, who survived a near death experience, was back in the crowd to cheer him on but on the other hand, despite going toe-to-toe with their opponents, Buffalo eventually lost the game in overtime, marking their second consecutive loss.
During a locker room interview, the defenseman discussed these topics and stated that her fiancé’s visit to the KeyBank Center was quite special. According to WGRZ, Dahlin remarked that
“Unbelievable, the support we have had for a long time no. She getting this today was special for sure”
Dahlin has racked up 8 goals and 29 assists so far this season. With the regular season nearing its conclusion, the Sabres now lead the Atlantic Division with 96 points, two points ahead of second-place Tampa Bay Lightning, all but confirming their playoff berth.
