Mitch Marner’s trade to the Vegas Golden Knights just hours before the 2025 NHL Draft was the most talked about deals of the past offseason. The right winger who was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs back 2015 was keen to move on following years of falling short.
Since his trade to the Golden Knights, Marner has registered 19 goals and 51 assists in 72 games played this season. With a total of for a total of 70 points, Marner’s adapted quickly to his new surroundings. However, some have noted his lack of goals as area of concern.
Averaging closer to 25-30 goals a season, fans have been questioning Marner’s dip in metrics and Golf commentator Drew Livingstone recently asked Golden Knights fans if the right winger has become an issue for the team. His X post read,
“Question for Golden Knights fans. Now that the season is essentially done…are you happy about the Marner signing? #VegasBorn Vegas is currently on pace for their worst points percentage finish in team history.”
In the comments section of the post, fans largely appreciated Mitch Marner, arguing that he was not the problem, but that the other changes made by the Vegas Golden Knights are the reason why the team will finish this season with its lowest points percentage in history. Here are what some of them had to say,
“Yes, Marner is not the issue. Losing Pietrangelo is what hurting the team.” One fan stated.
“Happy with Marner. It’s the Andersson trade that killed the team.” Another fan pointed out.
“He’s been the most consistent thing about this team, yes im happy, just think cap was a little too tight this season for us to still buy andersson look out next year.” One fan explained.
“I love a Leafs account asking us about if Marner was a good signing. he has been great. the goaltending is the issue. and that is the problem.” One fan stated.
“Marner has been a bright spot for the team. Goaltending has been the issue.” Another fan exclaimed.
Currently third in the Atlantic Division, the Golden Knights will bank on Marner to carry them through their remaining regular season games to nab a playoff spot.
Chants for Mitch Marner erupted during Maple Leafs’ game against Sens

Mitch Marner had the best season of his career in 2024-25, but the Maple Leafs made the decision to trade their right winger to the Golden Knights after once again failing to deliver in the playoffs.
Since the trade, the Maple Leafs have hit what can presumably be said as rock bottom. With team captain, Auston Matthews, out for the remainder of the season with an MCL injury, the Leafs find themselves second-last in the Atlantic Division.
Taking on the Ottawa Senators, it was a familiar tale for the Maple Leafs as they lost 5-2 at the Canadian Tire Centre. Sens fans poked fun at the Leafs’ misery chanting, “You need Marner”.
The loss against Ottawa, was the team’s third consecutive defeat and all but surely confirmed their failure to qualify for the playoffs.
