NHL Rumors: Blackhawks Expected To Be ‘Aggressive’ This Offseason With $33.25M Sabres Star Identified as Key Target

The Chicago Blackhawks had one of their worst seasons in 2025-26. The team fared miserably throughout the season, finishing at the bottom of the Central Division. They ended with 72 points, 10 points behind the Winnipeg Jets, who finished in seventh place.

Following this terrible performance, it has been reported that the Blackhawks’ 2026 offseason could be huge. According to reports, the team may undergo substantial changes, and they currently intend to acquire two veteran or excellent wingers to their roster. Buffalo Sabres forward Alex Tuch is one of the players that they may be interested in.

NHL Trade Alert reported about this on X with a post that read:

“DFO Rundown (Apr 22): Chicago is going to be aggressive this off season. They want to add two impact wingers to play with Bedard and Frondell. Alex Tuch will be a target if he makes it to free agency. There is a willingness to make moves, and they have assets. #Blackhawks #NHL”

Alex Tuch is currently signed with the Sabres in a seven-year contract worth $33.25 million. He signed this contract in 2018, which means 2025-26 will be his final season with the team. Tuch will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and the Blackhawks will be eager to capitalize on this opportunity.

The 29-year-old center may be an excellent addition to the squad, but with speculations that several teams are interested in him, it could be difficult for Chicago. Tuch was in decent form this year, scoring 20 goals and assisting 16 times for a total of 36 points in 68 games played.

The Chicago Blackhawks traded their former captain, Nick Foligno, to the Minnesota Wild on March 6. Following that, Connor Bedard and Tyler Bertuzzi stepped forward as the team’s alternate captains for the rest of the 2025-26 season.

Interestingly, there is speculation that the squad will make Connor Bedard its new captain heading forward. Interestingly, the 20-year-old appears prepared, as he stated in a recent interview.

Bedard said that if he is allowed to wear the C patch, he will try to take the team to a very different level. According to the Chicago Tribune, the center said:

“I’m always going to feel like that — how tight our room is, how close everyone is off the ice, it makes it so easy for anyone to be in that role. If I did get the ‘C,’ I’m not going to change who I am and become something different just because of that letter. It’s an added responsibility that I do think I’d be ready for — a lot of guys could be ready for it in that room — but it would be a special honor.”

If Connor Bedard gets to be the captain of the Blackhawks, he will become the 37th captain for the team in their century-old history.
