The New York Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders are possibly playing to lose their matchups for better chances at getting the No. 1 pick next year. Regardless, there are several injured key players who may or may not be playing this game, including tight end Theo Johnson. The big question is, will he play on Sunday against the Raiders?
Johnson is the Giants’ second-leading receiver, with the second-year player already getting 45 receptions for 528 yards and five touchdowns this year. He would be a big loss to the Giants should he not be able to play. However, he drew some concerns after he appeared on the team’s injury report on Saturday.
What Happened To Theo Johnson?
Johnson reportedly missed the final practice ahead of the showdown against the Las Vegas Raiders. The reason for his absence was an unspecified illness, and this prevented him from travelling with the team on the way to their road game in Las Vegas.
Will Theo Johnson Play in Week 17 Vs. The Las Vegas Raiders?
This now raises the question of whether he will be able to play. With Johnson reportedly not traveling with his teammates, a new report from SB Nation has dropped, revealing that the tight end will not be playing against the Raiders on Sunday. He has also been officially listed as out, as he did not have any game status last Saturday.
He is not the only Giants starter to possibly miss the game, as starting center John Michael Schmitz also did not travel with the team to Las Vegas and is officially listed as doubtful against the Raiders because of a finger injury. Other injured Giants players possibly missing the game include left tackle Andrew Thomas, safety Tyler Nubin, and defensive tackle D.J. Davidson.
Theo Johnson Fantasy Outlook
With him missing Sunday’s showdown between two of the NFL’s weakest teams, it should be safe to either sit or drop Theo Johnson. He is expected to miss at least a week due to illness, so he will not be producing the numbers needed for an effective fantasy squad. Heading to the waiver wire should be a wise choice.
