In June 2025, Aaron Rodgers signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. With hopes of winning another Super Bowl, Rodgers had a good season but fumbled in the playoff matchup against the Houston Texans as his team got eliminated.
Since then, the Steelers have been waiting for Rodgers’ confirmation on whether he will be available for them next season. The 42-year-old quarterback is keeping the organization and its fans on their toes by delaying the announcement.
There’s no guarantee that Rodgers will come back. The chances of his return are high, but the Steelers won’t have a clear idea of their quarterback room until he makes the announcement.
The NFL Draft is going to take place this month, and the Steelers could benefit from Rodgers decision, regardless of whether he stays or leaves. Intentionally or unintentionally keeping the suspense alive is hurting the franchise.
On a recent episode of The Arena: Gridiron, Skip Bayless chimed in on the ongoing discussion about Rodgers’ future. He believes Rodgers no longer plays at an elite level, which doesn’t make him an asset for the Steelers.
He compared Rodgers to LeBron James, who is 41 and the NBA’s oldest active player.
“If you watched LeBron James yesterday at Dallas, he is playing at a much, much, much, much higher level than Aaron Rodgers could dream of playing,” he said. “This is a very sad story to me that the Pittsburgh Steelers are being held hostage by Aaron Rodgers because they did this to themselves.”
Bayless said that Rodgers’ return for another season would be a “great fairytale story” for the franchise, but the harsh reality will kick in on the opening day when they lose.
Cris Carter Called Out Aaron Rodgers
Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter recently went off on Aaron Rodgers over his antics. He stated that the veteran quarterback wants to play, but he doesn’t want to make up his mind about it.
Carter also called him selfish and said that a lot of old quarterbacks end up behaving like him.
“You know he wants to play, but he just didn’t want to make up his mind. You need some time away from the game. It’s been a couple months from the Super Bowl. Now’s that time, before the draft, the minicamps. They’re an average team in the league. Aaron Rodgers is like a lot of these quarterbacks when they get to this stage. They’re so, so selfish,” he said.
As per Carter, Rodgers is also very “self-centered,” which is doing nothing for the franchise that is so deeply invested in him.
