The Denver Broncos might have won against the Buffalo Bills in overtime, but Bo Nix suffered a significant injury in the divisional round matchup that could jeopardize the team’s postseason future.
Fans want to know if Nix will suit up for the AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots.
Is Bo Nix Playing Today?
No, Bo Nix won’t be playing against the Patriots as he is sidelined for at least 12 weeks after breaking his right ankle late in Denver’s divisional playoff win over the Bills. Nix suffered the injury on a running play late in overtime. He was limping afterwards and the eventual test confirmed a fracture.
Earlier this week, head coach Sean Payton confirmed Nix will undergo ankle surgery this week. He’s not supposed to put any weight on his ankle for the next four weeks, and he can only resume football activities after three months. This was the third time he has broken his ankle while playing football, but doctors have assured him that this particular injury was at a different spot and thus there are no long-term concerns associated.
Nix had a massive 2025 season, throwing for 3,931 yards with 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Who Will Start For Broncos In Bo Nix’s Absence?
In Bo Nix’s absence, the Broncos will go with backup QB Jarrett Stidham. Interestingly, the backup quarterback hasn’t started a game since the 2023 season.
“I’m not worried about Stiddy (Stidham) in this game,” Payton told reporters Friday. “I’m worried about everyone else and how we play. That really is the truth.”
If Stidham can’t make play happens against the Patriots’ defensive unit, including Milton Williams, Christian Barmore and Christian Gonzalez. The Patriots were able to choke the Houston Texans’ rushing game.
In the 2023 season, Stidham completed 60.6% of his passes for 496 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He will rely on Broncos’ leading receiver Courtland Sutton, who this season has caught 74 passes for 1,017 yards and seven touchdowns. Christian Gonzalez could also prove to be an important weapon for the Broncos quarterback. Troy Franklin, Even Enrgam and Marvin Mim will be important in any potential success in the passing front.
