‘Found Something That Was So Damaging’: Podcaster Predicts Potential Deal Between Dianna Russini and the Athletic

After Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini were spotted together at an adults-only resort in Sedona, Arizona, over three months ago, the former NFL reporter’s ex-employer, The Athletic, announced that it is starting an internal investigation into her.

Shortly after the investigation decision, Russini announced her resignation from the company, where she earned around $800,000 a year, and said she did not want to fuel further speculation.

Since then, while the New York Times has released its extensive piece on Russini, the Athletic has yet to release any of its findings.

Talking about the situation, Podcaster Tony Farmer discussed whether Russini and the organization had agreed to a deal to stay mum about the investigation.

“It’s now fair to wonder if Dianna Russini and The Athletic have successfully negotiated some sort of mutually beneficial silence agreement. There’s only a small handful of explanations for The Athletic’s bizarre behavior, and that is on the “plausible” list. For me, if The Athletic never releases its findings, that immediately goes to #1 on the list. Perhaps the investigation found something so damaging to both parties, a handshake was the better route?”

Mike Florio Poses Blunt Questions on Dianna Russini’s Future

On June 30’s episode of the “Pro Football Network” show, Mike Florio discussed Russini’s viral incident with a police officer.

It started after the NYT mentioned Russini’s appearance in a podcast where she said she FaceTimed a head coach to get out of a ticket.

After a few days, bodycam footage of the incident was leaked, showing Russini name-dropping Kevin O’Connell and showing the officer her texts with him; however, there were no signs of any FaceTime calls.

Reacting to Russini allegedly lying about the incident, Mike Florio said:

“I’ve gone from believing it’s practically impossible for her to be a journalist again, an insider again, [to] I’m now starting to wonder whether or not she’s employable in any capacity in the media,” Florio said. “And look, again, I want to go far enough to satisfy my role. I don’t want to go too far. But who’s going to hire her?”

“If you can’t trust anything someone says, are you going to hire them?” he added. “I mean, it really does seem, and I’m not coming to any conclusion here, I’m just raising the question, I would want to know if I’m hiring this person to be a podcaster, radio host, whatever. What is the basic level of truthfulness on big matters, on little matters?”

In the bodycam footage, Russini is also seen taking a dig at Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy, saying that he “sucks.”
