The Philadelphia Eagles head coach, Nick Sirianni, has locked his plan for Week 18. The Eagles will play their final game of the regular season on Sunday at home against the Washington Commanders.
With an 11-5 record, the Eagles have clinched the NFC East division, but they can still improve their season standing based on the outcome of the Commanders’ game. Despite that, Sirianni has decided to rest his starters.
On Friday, Sirianni talked about his decision and the reason behind it. He said that the Eagles still have a chance to secure the number two seed, but that depends on another factor in addition to winning against the Commanders.
So, what’s in his control right now is to give his starters rest so that they can be better prepared for the playoffs. Although the key starters would not be a part of the rotation, Sirianni is still confident about the team’s chances.
While he’s making the best decision for his team in the long run, Sirianni believes that the players for the last game of the regular season have the potential to get the job done.
“Obviously, you can’t rest everybody. We’ve had a good week of practice. We’re going in there to try to win the game with some guys that haven’t played a ton of snaps on offense and defense, but obviously have contributed. But just felt like that was the best thing for the football team for this week, moving forward,” he SAID.
This will also be an opportunity for Sirianni to see what his reserve players are capable of. It’ll be a good opportunity to assess the depth of the Eagles’ roster, which will be crucial in the postseason.
How Can Nick Sirianni’s Team Secure the Second Seed?
The Eagles will have to win against the Washington Commanders. It can be an easy job for the team, considering they have been 4-12 and are on a two-game losing streak. However, their roster at full strength against the Eagles’ reserves will be a tough contest.
In addition to winning their own game, the Detroit Lions will have to beat the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field for the Eagles to secure the number two seed. Fortunately for the Eagles, their 3-seed is secured, and they can’t drop lower than that.
“I mean, they put it on the scoreboard, and I’m looking at the scoreboard quite a bit to rewatch plays or stuff like that, so you see it. We’ll see how it goes as the game goes on,” Sirianni said.
Both games will start at the same time on Sunday, and Sirianni will keep a close eye on the Bears-Lions scoreboard to see whether his team moves up in the final standings.
