Former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee was visibly unhappy with one of the decisions taken during the USA vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina FIFA World Cup Round of 32 game. The game was hosted at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium on Wednesday.
On X, McAfee shared a video throwing shade at the officials of the game. He criticized the decision to give Team USA’s striker Folarin Balogun a red card.
“Can’t get a red card for that,” McAfee said. “Can’t get a red card for that. … Come the (expletive) on, man. He’s our goal scorer. Harry Kane got tackled earlier today. We got tripped in the box.
“Balogun gets a red card for that? Oh no. Oh, don’t make me hate soccer. I was falling back in love.”
Folarin Balogun has been a key player for his team this World Cup. Against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday, he scored the first goal before halftime. However, the 24-year-old’s luck changed in the second half after he was sent off with a red card following a tackle.
While contesting for the ball with Tarik Muharemovic, Balogun ended up stepping on his opponent’s ankle. The Bosnia players protested for a card, resulting in referee Raphael Claus checking the VAR.
After reviewing the play, it was confirmed that Balogun’s tackle was a dangerous one. He received a red card in the 64th minute of the game. Despite the disadvantage, Team USA persevered and secured a 2-0 victory, qualifying for the round of 16.
Pat McAfee celebrates Team USA’s victory
After his initial post, Pat McAfee shared another video on X celebrating the United States’ victory on Wednesday.
In his video, he heaped praise on the players and discussed the next game against Belgium.
“Uhh, yeah, we’re going to win the World Cup,” Pat McAfee said. “10 of our guys beat 11 Bosnians today. … 11 of our guys, beat 11 Bosnians. Next, Belgium. No problem. Then it’s on, with Spain, Argentina and France potentially.
“The boys are ready. The boys are buzzing. And we’re going to win the (expletive) World Cup. This is so awesome. I’m so happy for us.”
Belgium booked their spot in the Round of 16 following a 3-2 victory over Senegal. They will face Team USA on Monday in Seattle.
