Christian Gonzalez has been one of the unsung heroes of the New England Patriots. While many have focused on Drake Maye, Mike Vrabel and TreVeyon Henderson, Gonzalez has quietly shut down his opponents.
However, his health has been in question. Will Gonzalez play against the Houston Texans? Here’s a look at the cornerback’s health as his status appears to be clear.
Christian Gonzalez Injury Status
According to a post on his Instagram via MLFootball, the cornerback indicated he would be back on the field in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
The Instagram story featured a photo of himself on the field in a Patriots uniform in black and white. He included the song “I’m Back” by G Herbo, which indicates he will not miss a game or perhaps even a practice.
Of course, without official confirmation, don’t treat his message as a guarantee, but all signs point toward Gonzalez facing the Houston Texans this week.
Christian Gonzalez’s Top Matchup In Race To Face Patriots CB
While Christian Gonzalez appears to have won his race against a concussion injury, the jury is still out on Nico Collins. Collins would seemingly be the receiver to match up with Gonzalez.
The Texans’ top receiver is working through his own concussion injury sustained in the Wild Card round against the Pittsburgh Steelers. If Collins can clear the protocol for the second time this year, he would likely face Gonzalez on at least some of the snaps. If he doesn’t match up with Gonzalez, he likely will face Carlton Davis III.
However, New England has historically run its defense under the guise of taking away players to make opponents beat them left-handed. If it uses that strategy, both Davis and Gonzalez could be used against Collins simultaneously.
Of course, it will fall on Collins to get healthy for the matchup first.
