Browns Icon Demands Spotlight for Shedeur Sanders Amid Dillon Gabriel’s Struggles at Cleveland

The Shedeur Sanders-Dillon Gabriel debate has been stirring the NFL world ever since their arrival at the Cleveland Browns post the 2025 NFL Draft.

While some fans and analysts believe Sanders won’t be better than Gabriel if given a chance and would struggle just like the ex-Oregon star, others believe the ex-Colorado quarterback is clearly the better choice for the job and deserves to be given the spotlight as the team’s QB1.

The conversation has grown, especially after Gabriel struggled against the New England Patriots, who defeated the Browns 32-13 last week.

Gabriel has been far from his best in his first four NFL starts, securing just 59.9% in completion percentage along with 7-2 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions in total.

Talking about whether or not the Browns should continue giving Gabriel the QB1 role, ex-Browns cornerback Joe Haden shared his views on “The Honor The Land” show on the BIGPLAY Sports Network, saying:

“Dillon Gabriel, I don’t think he’s the answer. I don’t want to seem like I’m forcing Dillon out of there, like I want to give him a valid shot. I think Shedeur Sanders is going to be a very good quarterback, and I would like to give him a chance. If we go throw him in there hopefully he’s gonna throw more of these deep passes.”

NFL Analyst Rips Browns Staff Over Shedeur Sanders-Dillon Gabriel Situation

The fans have been furious with the Browns and their head coach, Kevin Stefanski, over their current quarterback strategy. Stefanski was especially under fire after he told the press on Monday that the team would stick with Gabriel despite the loss to the Patriots.

Aaron Goldhammer recently expressed his frustration over the situation on ESPN Cleveland, saying:

“There’s something going on here that is weird, strange and dysfunctional. Because the answers to the questions and the logic from the moment they drafted him [Sanders] to right now, there are all these incongruities and inconsistencies.”

“Why didn’t he get more reps and opportunities in training camp when he’s the more talented guy and Dillon Gabriel is the less talented guy? It’s more than meets the eye, it’s Browns dysfunction at its finest,” he added.

The Browns will face the New York Jets in Week 10 after their Bye week in Week 9.
