“Makes Zero Sense”: College Football Analyst Blasts Mike Vrabel for Missing NFL Draft Day 3 for Counseling

The New England Patriots are once again at the center of offseason headlines and it’s not about roster moves. Instead, it’s about head coach Mike Vrabel and a decision that has left analysts and fans questioning the timing.

Vrabel confirmed he will miss Day 3 of the NFL Draft to begin counseling, a move he described as necessary to become “the best version” of himself as a husband, father, and coach. While the intent behind the decision has been widely acknowledged, the timing has sparked debate from college football analyst Clay Travis.

Analyst Questions Timing of Mike Vrabel Counseling

Taking to social media, Travis didn’t hold back.

“Missing Day 3 of the draft for ‘counseling’ is super weird… This feels like an unannounced punishment. Makes zero sense,” he wrote.

The criticism centers less on the counseling itself and more on when it’s happening. The Patriots currently hold 11 total selections, with eight of those coming on Day 3. That alone has raised eyebrows about Vrabel stepping away during a key phase of roster building.

The announcement comes in the wake of ongoing scrutiny tied to photos involving Dianna Russini. While both parties have denied any wrongdoing, the situation has generated sustained media attention and internal conversations within the organization.

In addressing the matter, he emphasized accountability and leadership, noting that seeking counseling is something he would advise his own players to do.

Importantly, the NFL is not investigating the situation, and there has been no indication of disciplinary action from the team. Vrabel is also expected to remain in contact with the front office during Day 3, with personnel executives handling operations in the draft room.

Fans Split on Mike Vrabel’s Decision

Some fans agreed with Travis, suggesting the move raises more questions than answers.

“This screams PR team,” one user commented, implying the decision may be more about public perception than necessity.

Another added, “They’re making it up as they go along, hoping this blows over.”

Others questioned the optics of skipping only the final day of the draft.

“If he really wants and needs counseling and cares about family as he says, then he should be missing all the draft,” one fan said.

“The NFL doesn’t want pressure for an internal investigation into this,” one user wrote.

Coming off a Super Bowl appearance, the Patriots are focused on maintaining momentum heading into the 2026 season. While Vrabel’s absence may not significantly impact draft execution, the conversation around it highlights how off-field decisions can quickly shape public perception.
