The New York Knicks locker room was seemingly mocking former Chicago Bulls guard Jaden Ivey. After the Knicks’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, Karl-Anthony Towns gave an interview to reporters from the locker room.
While Towns was speaking, someone in the Knicks locker room was heard saying:
“Nah, you not righteous.”
For context, Ivey was waived by the Bulls on Monday after he went on an Instagram rant, calling out the NBA and many others for being unrighteous. He also made an anti-LGBTQ comment regarding the NBA’s celebration of Pride Month.
“The world proclaims LGBTQ, right?” Ivey said. “They proclaim Pride Month and the NBA does, too. They show it to the world. They say, ‘Come join us for Pride Month to celebrate unrighteousness.’ They proclaim it on the billboards. They proclaim it on the streets. Unrighteousness.”
The Knicks defeated the Grizzlies 130-119 on Wednesday. Karl-Anthony Towns was key in the win, finishing with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, shooting 8-for-12. OG Anunoby recorded 25 points and 13 rebounds.
Jaden Ivey’s issues with the Chicago Bulls predate viral Instagram rant
While Jaden Ivey’s anti-LGBTQ comments became the nail in the coffin for his time with the Bulls, according to reporter Joe Cowley, the guard’s issues with the team had been present for some time.
According to Cowley’s report, there were questions surrounding whether Ivey was a “preacher” with the guard reportedly asking reporters during media sessions if they had been “saved.” Ivey is also said to have asked reporters if they had “fornicated before marriage.”
Jaden Ivey was drafted No. 5 in 2022 out of Purdue. He showed much promise at the beginning of his career, averaging 14.9 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 214 games with the Detroit Pistons.
This season, he recorded 8.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in 37 matchups. It has been a steep decline for Ivey, who voiced on Instagram that after being cut by the Bulls, other teams might be unwilling to take a chance on him because he is “too religious.”
Ivey’s criticism was not limited to the NBA and its celebration of Pride Month as he also called out the Chicago Bulls, Stephen Curry, LeBron James and even Michael Jordan in one of his rants.
