It was a rough outing for Luke Kennard on Sunday, putting up his worst outing of these playoffs during the LA Lakers-Houston Rockets Game 4 clash. He finished with just seven points in the Purple & Gold’s 115-96 loss, with things only getting worse after the final buzzer.
As tensions rose late in the game at Toyota Center, players from both sides got into a brief verbal altercation. It never turned physical, but emotions were clearly running high. In the middle of it all, Kennard approached referee James Williams and didn’t hold back his frustration.
“You f**king suck,” Kennard candidly said.
The league didn’t take kindly to Kennard’s NSFW remark towards James Williams. A day later, the sharpshooter was slapped with a $25,000 fine for his actions.
“Luke Kennard has been fined $25,000 for directing inappropriate language toward game officials,” the official statement read.
He wasn’t alone in facing consequences. Marcus Smart also spoke out about the officiating after the game, saying, “We all understood it was some BS.” That remark cost him even more, as he was fined $35,000 for “questioning the integrity of game officials.”
