Deni Avdija has had a stellar 2025-26 season thus far, averaging career-best 25.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.7 assists. He received the first All-Star selection of his career but has battled injuries while carrying the Blazers on his shoulder. He was out of the rotation for the last three games, and Portland has won one of them.
The Blazers will now face the Memphis Grizzlies at Moda Center in back-to-back games after the Blazers cruised to victory in the first game on February 6, 135-115, snapping their six-game losing streak. Even without Avdija, Jeremy Grant and Jrue Holiday took over the scoring duty and added 23 and 20 points, respectively.
Donovan Clingan had a double-double with 13 points and 17 rebounds, while the bench contributed 62 points. However, the Blazers are 3-5 without Avdija on the court and need their superstar to register another win. He was labeled ‘Questionable’ for the last game due to a lower back sprain.
The Blazers’ young talent Scoot Henderson played his first game this season after a left hamstring tear. He scored 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists, coming off the bench. Avdija will again be a game-time decision by the medical staff, but even if he doesn’t take the court, the team will look to extend the winning run.
Deni Avdija gets his first All-Star nod
One name that was in talks for an All-Star selection right from the first game of the season was Deni Avdija. Given he plays in the Western Conference, the achievement might be even sweeter for the 2020 ninth overall pick, as it’s filled with superstar talents like Kawhi Leonard and Alpren Sengun, who were snubbed from the West this season.
Deni Avdija deserved every bit of the hype he has built around his name. He was also a hot piece in trade talks, even though nothing came out of that. With a 24-28 record, the Blazers are placed in 10th place and will look to be part of play-ins going ahead. With Henderson back in rotation, the task might be a little easier for them.
