Anthony Davis’ injuries have been a topic of discussion in the NBA world lately, especially after his trade to the Washington Wizards. He underwent a hand injury during the Dallas Mavericks game against the Utah Jazz on January 8. However, this time, it’s not about his on-court struggle with injuries.
After Davis was sidelined due to his left hand ligament injury, ESPN analyst Shams Charania and other media members reported that the 10-time NBA All-Star would undergo surgery to repair the ligament. However, taking to X, AD snubbed those reports and wrote on his timeline:
“Yall better stop listening to all these lies on these apps!”
A month after that incident, The Athletic’s analyst Davis Aldridge recently spoke to Davis, one of the members of the 75th Anniversary NBA team, in Washington. In the piece, the analyst mentioned that AD did undergo a left hand surgery in mid-January and was not supposed to play until March.
Fans and NBA analysts specifically pointed out that line from the article and even shared it on X, claiming that the reports from Charania and others were not false. One wrote:
“Shams didn’t lie, you did.”
One of the Mavs podcaster wrote:
“So Anthony Davis DID in-fact have hand surgery on his left hand while he was still a member of the Mavericks!?!”
If Davis did reportedly undergo hand surgery and if the reports were true, there was no need to slam them and later come out clean. The intention might also be not to rile up fans even more than they already were with his constant injuries.
Whatever it was, users on social media did not seem to like Davis’ decision to hide the truth about his surgery in public. Further in the report, analyst Aldridge mentioned Rich Paul’s reaction to not getting informed about AD’s trade.
“They don’t have to do it,” Rich Paul on the Mavericks not informing him about Anthony Davis’ trade
The Athletic analyst David Aldridge also spoke with Anthony Davis’ agent, and Klutch Sports Group’s CEO, Rich Paul, and asked him about his thoughts on not being consulted before moving the 6-foot-10 forward. He said:
“They don’t have to do it. It’s a courtesy thing, but they don’t have to do it. Sometimes these are bang-bang things. … Guys get traded in the middle of the night all the time. They don’t owe it to you.”
While it was reported earlier that Paul did not get a call on Davis’ next destination, the high-profile agent downplayed the significance of the consultation. Notably, he was called by the Cleveland Cavaliers before they traded one of his other NBA clients, Darius Garland.
Besides all the noise, the pairing in Washington looks promising. With Trae Young facilitating the offense and feeding shooters like Alexx Sarr and Keyshawn George, and Anthony Davis to space the offense, the Wizards surely have the means to be a top seed in the East. Time will decide which way the team will move in the coming seasons.
