Victor Wembanyama Faces Massive Backlash From Fans After Egregious Flop in Game 6 vs Timberwolves

Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs blazed past the Timberwolves in a closeout Game 6 of their Western Conference semis to advance in the playoffs on Friday. However, Wembanyama’s flop in the first quarter of the game appeared to be one of the biggest talking points on the night.

With 6:26 left and the Spurs holding a 20-11 lead, Wembanyama soared high to block Julius Randle’s shot. He didn’t get the block, but immediately turned around and hoped to secure the rebound. Wembanyama felt Randle’s contact on his back and he dove from just outside the restricted area all the way out of bounds.

Replays showed the shove didn’t have much to do with how Wembanyama went down on that play, as he seemingly threw himself to the floor a second after the contact.

Wembanyama failed to draw the offensive foul on that play, but the flop stood out for NBA fans on X, who didn’t waste time mocking the Spurs star for the egregious sell.

One fan compared him to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander due to his controversial foul-baiting techniques, saying:

“He’s approaching SGA levels of detest ability”

“Bro acted like he got shot in the back,” one fan joked.

“Never want to hear s**t about “ethical hoops” from spurs fans ever again,” another said.

“Straight out the school of embiid,” PrizePicks tweeted.

“Dumb a** gonna give him self a concussion,” one fan wrote.
“Yeah man you would think only in Hollywood but these dudes done took their acting to another level,” another added.

Victor Wembanyama cruises to Western Conference finals on first attempt, sets up exciting clash against OKC

Victor Wembanyama is delivering on the hype he’s drawn since entering the NBA. Many believed he was instantly making the Spurs contenders. It took three years for Wembanyama to get there, but it was worth it. He’s already taken them to the Western Conference finals on his first attempt as the No. 2 seed, setting up a thrilling series against the Thunder.
Wembanyama closed the Timberwolves with back-to-back blowout wins. In Game 6 on Friday, he dropped 19 points, six rebounds and three blocks on 6 of 11 shots in 27 minutes. The Spurs won 139-109.
The next matchup sees Victor Wembanyama duel his MVP rival, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Thunder have been unbeaten in the playoffs through two rounds, so it will be a tall task. However, the Spurs were always their best opponents.
San Antonio took down OKC four times in five games in the regular season. It will be interesting to see if the Thunder can turn things around with their experience in the playoffs.
