The San Antonio Spurs were always seen as a team with one of the most exciting young cores in the league. However, heading into the 2025-26 season, very few fans or analysts expected them to be as dominant as they’ve been. Led by Victor Wembanyama, who is putting together an MVP-level season, the Spurs are now on track to finish as a top-two seed in the Western Conference.
With that being said, the playoffs are a different challenge altogether. Teams with experience usually have the edge, while younger squads often struggle under the pressure. But Wembanyama is not buying into that narrative.
After Wednesday’s win over the Golden State Warriors, he addressed concerns about the team’s lack of playoff experience and made it clear they are not backing down from their goal of lifting the Larry O’Brien trophy.
“Yeah… We don’t have experience, right?” Wembanyama said. “Screw it. We’re still gonna play 100% and go try to win this championship. Screw it.”
The Spurs have officially returned to the playoffs for the first time since the 2018-19 season, snapping a six-year drought. They currently boast a 58-18 record, with just six games left to play. Sitting only two games behind the top-seeded OKC Thunder, San Antonio still has a real shot at claiming the No. 1 seed.
If they manage to go undefeated over the final 10-day stretch, they could also finish with 64 wins, marking the second-best regular-season record in franchise history.
Victor Wembanyama creates history with dominant two-game stretch
Victor Wembanyama is building a serious case for the 2026 MVP, and his recent performances are hard to ignore. His game during the Spurs’ 26-2 stretch over the last 28 games has been incredible, but the way he has performed in the last two games has taken things to another level.
On Mar. 30, he delivered a dominant showing with 41 points and 16 rebounds, adding four assists and three blocks in a 129-114 win over the Chicago Bulls. He followed that up on Apr. 1 with another incredible outing, putting up 41 points and 18 rebounds along with three assists and three blocks in just 29 minutes, leading the Spurs to a 127-113 victory over the Golden State Warriors.
With back-to-back performances like these, Wembanyama has made history. He became the first player since 1974 (Bob McAdoo) to record at least 40 points, 15 rebounds, and three blocks in consecutive games. He is also the youngest player ever to achieve 40 and 15 in back-to-back games.
His season averages now improve to 24.7 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.1 blocks per game.
