“TAKE SGA MVP AWAY”: Fans Bow Down to Victor Wembanyama After 41-Point, 24-Rebound Game 1 to Take Down Thunder

On the night when Shai Gilgeous-Alexander received his second NBA MVP award, Victor Wembanyama grabbed headlines with his latest monster performance for the San Antonio Spurs. Posting 41 points and 24 rebounds, Wembanyama led the Spurs to a rousing Game 1 victory over SGA’s OKC Thunder.

The irony of the situation was not lost on fans, who sang Wembanyama’s praises and took shots at Gilgeous-Alexander on social media.

    “TAKE SGA MVP AWAY”

“Foul baiting doesn’t do s*** against the alien”

“Wemby is the modern Wilt. All stories they told us. Wemby is him. Wemby cold”

“What is even this stat? 41pts, 24 Rebounds. In a conference finals. I can’t tell you how unbelievably clutch that half court shot was! Helluva game!”

“Yeah not gonna lie he is the best player in the NBA and that’s coming from someone who would’ve voted SGA #1 on my ballot”

“24 rebounds in a single playoff game is wild enough, but dropping 41 on 56% FG alongside it? He didn’t just beat the Thunder tonight, he completely demoralized them. Wrap the series up.”

Just three days removed from the conclusion of the Spurs-Wolves series, Victor Wembanyama played 48 minutes in the series opener of the Western Conference Finals. Fatigue, however, did not appear to be a factor for the two-time All-Star.

All night long, Wembanyama controlled the shaded lane on both ends of the floor. Despite the Thunder’s tactic of having defensive pest Alex Caruso hounding the French center, Wembanyama continued to dominate down the stretch to help the Spurs secure the 122-115 victory.

After Game 1, Victor Wembanyama admitted that watching Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s MVP awarding ceremony made him feel a certain way.

“Feels like I still got a lot to learn. I want to get that trophy many times in my career.”

At 22 years old, Wembanyama has many, many more opportunities to win multiple MVP awards.
