As Miami Heat fans rejoiced in the wake of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s arrival, the fanbase of another Eastern Conference team appeared to be up in arms on social media.
The Boston Celtics were reportedly squaring off against the Heat in a race to acquire the two-time MVP this offseason. Late Monday night, ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news that Miami and Boston would be Antetokounmpo’s landing spots.
This did not sit well with some netizens, who vented their ire at Antetokounmpo and the Heat.
In this blockbuster trade, Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis are heading to Miami while Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Kasparas Jakucionis were dealt to Milwaukee. The Bucks also received three first-round picks, one second-round pick, and a pick swap.
Charania also reported that the Celtics’ former Finals MVP Jaylen Brown had been offered to the Bucks as Boston pursued Antetokounmpo. Allegedly, the Bucks went with the Heat’s package because they found it better for a “big-picture approach with controlled contracts and long-term competitiveness for new coach Taylor Jenkins.”

Social media is buzzing with all sorts of opinions on Antetokounmpo and the three Eastern Conference teams caught up in the saga. In the eyes of salary cap analyst Yossi Gozlan, the Bucks made the right decision to choose the Heat’s offer over the Celtics’ package.
“I think the Bucks went with the right choice here. They could get much more value with the Heat package IF they hit on these draft picks and IF they successfully develop the guys they’re bringing in. If they accepted the Celtics package, they’d just be kicking the can down the road to flip Jaylen Brown later and risk potentially getting less.”
Now that the situation regarding Brown is out in the open, the Celtics have to spend the offseason figuring out whether they’ll keep the five-time All-Star happy or ship him away all the same.
