San Antonio Spurs vs Memphis Grizzlies Preview and Prediction
The San Antonio Spurs have turned into the hottest team in the league since the start of February, losing just two games over the past seven weeks. That incredible 22-2 run has pushed them to a 54-18 record, now sitting only three games behind the top-seeded OKC Thunder.
On the other hand, things have gone in the opposite direction for the Memphis Grizzlies. Over that same stretch, they have struggled badly, going just 6-18. As a result, they have slipped to 12th in the Western Conference with a 24-47 record, now 9.5 games behind the 10th-seeded Golden State Warriors. At this point, with only 11 games remaining before the conclusion of the regular season, their chances of making the play-in tournament look extremely slim.
The Spurs have already handled Memphis well this season. They won the first two matchups without Victor Wembanyama, taking a 111-101 victory on Nov. 18 and then a 126-119 win on Dec. 2. In both games, the duo of De’Aaron Fox and Harrison Barnes carried the load, combining for an average of 54.5 points.
Memphis did manage to steal the third meeting on Jan. 6, edging out a 106-105 win behind strong performances from Jaren Jackson Jr. and Cam Spencer, who put up 42 points together. The game was sealed by Santi Aldama’s clutch defensive stop on Fox in the final seconds.
Even though the earlier games were competitive, this next matchup feels different. The Spurs are playing at a completely different level right now, while the Grizzlies are in the middle of their toughest stretch of the season. Injuries have only made things worse for Memphis, with several rotation players expected to be out on Wednesday.
Prediction: Expect the Spurs to win by 16 points.
