Phoenix Suns guard Dillon Brooks isn’t holding back against Team Canada teammate and OKC Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the playoffs. Three minutes into Game 4 on Monday, Brook was called for a technical foul after bumping into his fellow Canadian in a dead-ball situation.
The encounter sparked a social media frenzy, prompting fans to react. One fan wrote:
“That’s peak Dillon Brooks energy.”
Another fan added:
“F**k was that? Soft-a** push and T’d??”
One more fan continued:
“Brooks doesn’t warm up, he jumps straight into chaos.”
Another fan commented:
“The refs knew instantly this was gonna be a long night.”
One fan tweeted:
“He came in ready to start chaos immediately.”
Brooks and SGA are close friends who have competed for Team Canada in international basketball. They recently appeared together in the 2024 Olympics, where they exited in the quarterfinals against Victor Wembanyama and host France.
When they are in the NBA playing for separate teams, Dillon Brooks and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander go hard at each other.
In the play that led to Brooks’ technical foul, the Suns’ enforcer was frustrated at what SGA did. The reigning MVP hooked his arm into Suns guard Collin Gillespie just as he drove to the basket, a move that resulted in a foul on Gillespie. Brooks showed his displeasure by bumping into his compatriot.
SGA’s teammate Isaiah Hartenstein shoved Brooks away before Suns center Oso Ighodaro separated the two.
The Brooks-SGA incident marked the start of a fiery first quarter, which ended with the Thunder taking a 37-33 lead. Brooks, Gillespie, Devin Booker and Jalen Green are keeping the Suns in the game. SGA, Hartenstein, Chet Holmgren and Alex Caruso are leading OKC’s attempt to sweep the home team.
Dillon Brooks Took Slammed Referees After Game 2 for Seemingly Favoring Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Thunder
The Phoenix Suns were the latest team to rip the referees for allegedly giving Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the OKC Thunder favorable calls. In Game 1 a week ago, SGA attempted 17 free throws, one less than what the entire Suns team took.
Dillon Brooks and the Suns’ frustrations boiled over in Game 2 on Wednesday after a 120-107 loss. In the postgame interview, Brooks said that SGA “is a little frail,” a reason why he thought the referees gave the point guard favorable calls.
Brooks continued that the playoffs are a “man’s game” and questioned the “dropping and the falling and the flailing,” which was seemingly another shot at Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
SGA refused to add fuel to the fire by saying that “Dillon’s doing what he’s supposed to do.” The favorite to repeat as MVP added that it was “super fun” competing against his compatriot.
