“Nothing Changes”: LeBron James Isn’t Backing Down in Luka Doncic’s Absence

Right now, the postseason outlook for LeBron James and the LA Lakers doesn’t look so bright. Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves are both projected to miss a huge chunk (if not the entirety) of the first round, and the Lakers’ playoff survival hinges on the 41-year-old who find himself squarely in the spotlight once again.

James, however, has made it clear that he isn’t daunted by this challenge. Following the Lakers’ dominant 119-103 win over the Golden State Warriors Thursday night, LBJ assured his team’s fanbase that he would continue to give it his all on the court, as per usual.

“Nothing changes for me, it’s just back to the old ways. I gotta give them my leadership both on the floor and off the floor.”

During his heyday, LeBron James was constantly an indispensable piece for his teams. At a young age, he had to learn how to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers in an era dominated by the Boston Celtics and the Detroit Pistons. Later on, James commanded the spotlight in Miami alongside Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh before becoming Cleveland’s King again in his second, title-clinching stint with the Cavs.

It’s been quite a while, however, since James had to shoulder such a heavy leadership burden in the absence of a strong no. 2 and no. 3 on his squad. James remains an extraordinary scorer and playmaker on the court, and he’ll have to put forth no less than a Herculean effort to buy Doncic and Reaves time to return in the playoffs.

“He’s Probably the Greatest Athlete I’ve Ever Seen”: Warriors HC Praises LeBron James After Lakers’ Dominant Win at Chase Center

After the Lakers-Warriors game, Golden State head coach Steve Kerr praised LeBron James for sustaining his fine form on the court, while also giving props to his own team’s main man.

“Steph [Curry] has the greatest hand-eye coordination I think anybody on earth, and LeBron is probably the greatest athlete, physical specimen that I’ve ever seen…There’s a reason they’re both still going.”

Over the past decade, Kerr and his Warriors squad have faced multiple iterations of LeBron James-led squads, whether it was in Cleveland or LA. James was also on Kerr’s lineup when Team USA went on another gold medal-clinching campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
