New York Knicks vs Atlanta Hawks Preview
The Knicks have been struggling all series long. After winning Game 1, 113-102, New York had chances to win Games 2 and 3 but couldn’t capitalize down the stretch. In Game 2, they blew a 12-point fourth-quarter lead in a 107-106 loss, and in Game 3, they rallied from an 18-point deficit but suffered a late collapse to lose 109-108.
The bottom line for New York is that they’ve struggled offensively. The likes of Mikal Bridges, Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart should take a bigger share of the blame for that. They need to figure out quickly how to counter the Hawks, like they did in the opening game of the series. It may be time to make some changes ahead of Game 4.
As for the Hawks, if you had told anyone that 34-year-old CJ McCollum, whom they acquired after trading franchise star Trae Young, would be largely responsible for two big wins in the first round of the playoffs, you would’ve been asked to take a sobriety test immediately.
He’s been more than serviceable so far in the series and seems to be getting more comfortable as it goes on. He had 32 points in Game 2 and 23 in Game 3. He also knocked down a 15-foot jumper at the buzzer to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead. He looks like he’s thriving when the games get gritty, and he’s certainly the player the Hawks will be relying on when it comes to the tougher side of this series.
