Orlando Magic vs Detroit Pistons Prediction, Injury Reports and Starting Lineups Tonight | Game 5, 2026 NBA Playoffs

The Detroit Pistons are facing elimination heading into Game 5 of their first-round series against the Orlando Magic. Despite splitting the first two games, the top-seeded Pistons surrendered large leads and dropped two straight on the road to an Orlando team that battled for a playoff spot until the very end. They now face the particular indignity of a Game 5 elimination night at Little Caesars Arena against an eighth seed.

To go from being top-seeded, where expectations were for a Finals run, to potentially being done on April 29th is an embarrassment. But if anyone knows how to come back from a 3-1 deficit, it’s the Pistons themselves.

They are one of the 13 teams to come back from a 3-1 hole. In 2003, they were staring down first-round elimination against the same Magic in their first-round series, only to storm back with three consecutive victories. They went on to reach the Eastern Conference Finals that year before losing to the New Jersey Nets in four games.

The Pistons also have a slightly better Game 5 record at 7-10, while the Magic are 4-7 overall and 1-5 on the road. The game tips off at 7 PM ET on Amazon Prime Video.

Orlando Magic vs Detroit Pistons Preview

One of the main reasons Orlando is leading the series is their ability to elevate their game when it matters most. They play as a complete unit with multiple difference makers each night, but Wendell Carter Jr. stood out the most, dominating the boards and collecting 28 rebounds across the last two games, which has shifted the momentum of the series. While Paolo Banchero and Desmond Bane lead the way, Carter Jr.’s impact has been especially crucial.

As for the Pistons, they have mostly let themselves down. Detroit has struggled to protect leads, find scoring depth, and maintain consistent offensive play. The obvious culprits are Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren. Despite both showing MVP and DPOY-caliber seasons in the regular season, Cunningham and Duren have failed to meet expectations in the series and have often been on the wrong end of each of the team’s losses.

Cunningham, as the primary creator, has become turnover-prone, recording 24 turnovers in the last three games, the highest in NBA playoff history over a three-game span.  As for Duren, who is a double-double machine, he has yet to fully translate his regular-season dominance into the series. The 22-year-old didn’t record anything in double figures this series, often losing key battles against Wendell Carter Jr. and the Magic. He is averaging 9.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists on 46.9% shooting.

Orlando Magic vs Detroit Pistons Prediction

The Magic have a lot in their favor. Paolo Banchero and Desmond Bane have both stepped up massively. Detroit has the talent to counter all of that, but they haven’t shown it at full potential yet, and it might be too late now. The bettors have the Pistons listed as 10.5-point favorites to cover the spread, but we expect the Magic to send them home packing and advance to the second round.
