Luka Doncic’s personal life has seemingly come crumbling down in the last few months as rumors of his separation from his fiancée, Anamaria Goltes, have been doing the rounds. Now, social media has dug up another aspect of his personal life.
In 2022, Doncic was involved in a legal dispute about the trademark of his ‘Luka Doncic 77’ brand, which had been owned by his mother, Mirjam Poterbin, since his rookie year. Poterbin refused to give up the trademark, leading the Slovenian guard to demand its cancellation at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as per NBA insider Marc Stein.
In a statement to Stein, Doncic said:
“I have a lot to look forward to as I continue to grow as a player and a person and it’s important to me to control my own brand and focus on giving back to my communities.”
According to Stein, Doncic gave Poterbin permission to register his name as a trademark in 2018. However, when he attempted to regain control of the trademarks, Poterbin reportedly refused to heed his request.
While Luka Doncic suffers from some major struggles in his personal life, his killer instinct on the court is as sharp as ever. He still leads the league in scoring, and the Lakers have now won five consecutive games.
Luka Doncic takes the Lakers to their fifth consecutive win
The Lakers met their Western Conference rivals, the Denver Nuggets, on March 15, culminating in a thrilling overtime win for the Lakeshow. Even though Doncic did not lead the team, he drained a game-winner in the final play of the game and took the game away from the 2022-23 NBA champions.
Austin Reaves led the team’s offense, scoring 32 points and making a heads-up play to take the game to overtime. He deliberately missed a free throw, hitting the front rim. The ball again landed in his hands, and he drained a baseline floater to tie the game.
The win is bound to instil confidence in the team before the postseason arrives.
