Jaylin Williams and Victor Wembanyama engaged in a heated exchange in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals. The OKC Thunder has once again taken the lead in the series against the San Antonio Spurs after defeating them, 127-114. After the game, Williams’ girlfriend, Alanna Harris, seemingly backed her partner on social media.
In the first quarter, when the teams went to their benches during a timeout, Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama bumped into each other, while Jaylin Williams seemingly exchanged words with the 7-foot-4 center. Afterwards, in the game, the Thunder’s backup center drained a 3-pointer on Wemby and added it with some verbal comments to the Spurs center.
SportsCenter shared the video on Instagram and wrote:
“Jaylin Williams stared down Wemby after hitting the three over him 👀”
Williams’ girlfriend, Harris, shared the video on her Instagram story, seemingly backing her boyfriend in the feud. Interestingly, the center only made that one shot in the game. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the offense with 32 points and nine assists, with the help of Jared McCain’s 20 points, who played as a starter.
Alex Caruso led the bench with 22 points, six assists, and three steals. As per the data, 76% of teams that have won Game 5 in a 2-2 tied conference finals series have won the series.
Jaylin Williams gets shocked by the Spurs crowd
As the Thunder won Game 5 back at their home at Paycom Center, Jaylin Williams was asked about his feelings in the series and what shocked him. The backup center tipped his hat to the Spurs crowd at Frost Bank Center and said:
“What surprised me actually is how loud their crowd was. I think it was really impressive. How the environment, their crowd was. It was a fun environment to play in.”
The Thunder defense managed to keep Victor Wembanyama in check in Game 5, as he could just score 20 points, six rebounds, and three blocks in 38 minutes. Stephon Castle led the offense with 24 points. Even though they collected 14 steals, compared to nine by the Thunder, the Spurs could not move forward in the series.
The Thunder will meet the Spurs for their closeout Game 6 on Thursday, May 28, back in San Antonio. The Spurs will face a must-win situation and hope to take the series to Game 7. The Western Conference Finals are turning out to be a cinema for fans.
