Jalen Williams’ latest social media activity has caught the NBA world off guard. After he played just seven minutes in Game 2, the OKC Thunder guard sort of disappeared from social media, drawing speculations. Williams’ left hamstring troubled him once again in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs.
Williams headed to the locker room in the first half due to tightness in his hamstring. He had just returned to the floor after missing the entire conference semifinals due to a hamstring sprain. However, it seems that the injury has come back to haunt him amid a crucial matchup with the Spurs.
Williams’ cryptic activity on Instagram after the game quickly went viral among fans, who noticed that he removed his display picture. He also deleted all the posts from his profile and blackened his image. A user shared screenshots of his account and wrote on X:
“he has now blacked out his pfp… it’s not looking good”
Williams was a factor in Game 1, as he scored 26 points and seven rebounds, along with one steal and one block. Though in a losing cause, 122-115, the 25-year-old guard led the team’s offense when the going got tough against the 7-foot-4 center Victor Wembanyama. That perfectly sums up his value to the roster.
However, that has not stopped fans from speculating that he might not be happy with the team and medical staff after their injury management. While a large section of fans believed that it meant his season was over, others felt that he might want a trade out of Oklahoma City.
Several analysts, including Stephen A. Smith, have already speculated on Chet Holmgren’s movement in the offseason, but the franchise has shown no signs of giving Jalen Williams up in any scenario. His social media activity might be a way of showing anger or remorse. Meanwhile, the Thunder were not the only ones who suffered injury concerns.
After Jalen Williams, Dylan Harper leaves with hamstring woes
Injuries play a big part on big stages, especially when teams are matched this closely in skills, as the Thunder and the Spurs are. In the third quarter, Dylan Harper also faced a similar fate to Jalen Williams when he tried to dunk on Shai Gilgeuos-Alexander and took a hard fall to the floor.
Harper was seen heading to the locker room afterwards. There has not been any further update on his injury.
It’s uncertain whether Harper will play Game 3 back at home. Notably, he has been top-notch, given it’s his first playoff appearance in his debut season. In the last game, he scored 12 points and three assists in 24 minutes before he was sidelined. His crucial double-doubles in times of need have come in handy for the team in tight situations.
Jalen Williams and Dylan Harper’s injuries will be the turning point of this series, and a lot will depend on how both teams adapt. Currently, it’s difficult to say who will suffer more if both guards remain out, as their impact on their respective teams has been immense.
