Ja Morant Reportedly Told Players He’s “Done Playing for Memphis” Amid Lingering Frustration Over Suspension Fallout

Ja Morant’s name has been in controversy for a long time, and once again, his statement has caught everyone off guard. In November 2025, he was suspended by the Memphis Grizzlies for “actions detrimental to the team.” In a recent update by ESPN, Morant’s internal statements have come to light.

NBA Base posted the update on X and wrote:

“Morant still hasn’t gotten over the suspension, multiple league sources said, because he felt alienated by teammates, who were told to leave the star guard alone so he could work through the issues that had led to the suspension. In the aftermath, Morant told players around the league and some of his former coaches that he isn’t playing for Memphis anymore, sources said.”

Morant indulged in several off-court and on-court antics during his career that also impacted his stock during the midseason trade period, when he was rumored to be traded. However, he remained with the team. However, his disinterest in playing with the Grizzlies highlighted that the team would look to move him during the offseason.

Meanwhile, the Grizzlies have already traded the other crucial piece, Jaren Jackson Jr., which means management will look to move on to a different direction if they decide to trade Morant.

Analyst highlights Grizzlies’ plans for next season after recent Ja Morant action

After the Memphis Grizzlies’ last game against the Houston Rockets, several players were unavailable for the press session, which gave rise to talks in the NBA world. A Clutchpoints reporter highlighted that the franchise might decide to go in a different direction, given the recent actions of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Ja Morant, and Brandon Clarke.

    The reporter wrote on X:

“This should be very telling as to what the Grizzlies’ plans are this offseason.

No Clarke was expected, but no KCP or Morant is notable.”

Ja Morant’s recent statements seemed to make sense with his actions with the franchise. Only time will tell if the shifty guard gets some attention from other teams during the offseason.
