The Ja Morant to Bucks trade rumors continue to gain steam with a little over three weeks left for the February deadline. Milwaukee is viewed as one of the natural fits, given the team’s need for a long-term solution at point guard and finding a new co-star for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Morant appears to be one of the buy-low candidates. His market value has taken a hit due to concerns about his health and production, making him an easier target for the Bucks, who only have one first-round pick to trade.
Given these circumstances, here’s what insider Jake Weinbach reported on the Morant to Bucks trade front:
“The Bucks are slowly starting to gain momentum as a realistic suitor for Ja Morant. There’s reportedly legitimate smoke surrounding Milwaukee’s desire to land the Grizzlies star with the front office widely expected to make another significant splash ahead of the deadline.”
Ja Morant also doesn’t have that many suitors. The Minnesota Timberwolves are probably the other likeliest landing spot for Morant if he’s moved other than the Milwaukee Bucks, as they also need a point guard. However, Minnesota would need to move one of its starters to make a deal, which seems unlikely.
Ja Morant Trade Rumors: Grizzlies Star Could Fetch Less Than Trae Young in a Deal
Ja Morant’s trade value has become a major concern for the Grizzlies. They reportedly want a first-round pick for the former No. 2 pick, but that’s far from what Memphis can net for him. According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, the Grizzlies might get less than what the Hawks received for Trae Young.
The Wizards dealt the expiring contract of CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert without draft capital in that trade. Here’s what MacMahon said on Monday:
“Shams reported that Memphis is looking for young players & multiple picks for Ja. Good luck with that. Because the feedback that we got on Ja wasn’t any move favorable than the feedback that we got on Trae. As a matter of fact, in some cases, it was even worse.”
If that’s the case, the Bucks might be able to retain their first-round pick and a young asset like Ryan Rollins. A deal centered around Kyle Kuzma and Bobby Portis could be enough to get Milwaukee a deal for Ja Morant, especially if Memphis is desperate to make the trade.
