Is De’Aaron Fox Playing Tonight? Star Guard’s Status in Jeopardy With Injury For Spurs-Timberwolves Game 5 (May 12)

The San Antonio Spurs avoided a Victor Wembanyama suspension for Game 5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but De’Aaron Fox’s status is in jeopardy for Tuesday night’s contest. The former NBA All-Star guard is listed as questionable to suit up after suffering a significant right ankle soreness that happened after Ayo Dosunmu inadvertently dove at his legs in the fourth quarter of Game 4.

Here’s the video of that play:

Fox limped to the bench shortly but returned to close the game before leaving with 10 seconds left as the Spurs made adjustments down four. While it didn’t limit Fox as much on Sunday, the injury seems to have gotten worse over time, potentially causing him to miss Tuesday’s clash.

Fox will likely be a game-time decision. He will have a 50% chance of playing as per his questionable designation. The Spurs will hope Fox is active, given that it’s a must-win game at home. A loss would see them head back to Minnesota trailing the series 3-2 and facing elimination.

De’Aaron Fox stats vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

Fox has averaged 23.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists in 29 career games against the Timberwolves, shooting 47.5%, including 38.8% from 3-point range. This season, he averaged 20.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 6.7 apg in three games. The Spurs were 1-2 in those outings.

During the 2026 playoffs, Fox’s numbers have dipped in four games. The star guard has averaged 16.8 ppg, 2.5 rpg and 4.0 apg, shooting 37.9%, including 22.2% from 3 and 72.2% from the free throw line.

Fox’s best effort came in Game 4, which was his only 20-point game of the series. He had 24 points, four rebounds and three assists, but on 8 of 23 shots.

Where to watch Minnesota Timberwolves vs. San Antonio Spurs Game 5?

Peacock will stream the contest online in the US, while NBA League Pass will do it globally. The game will begin at 8:00 p.m. ET. The Spurs are 10.5-point favorites to go up 3-2.
