The Dallas Mavericks host the Utah Jazz on Thursday without Cooper Flagg. The No. 1 pick was active in Wednesday’s loss to the Denver Nuggets, but suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter. Flagg left for the locker room limping and returned to the bench. However, he never re-entered the game.
After Ryan Nembhard replaced him in the lineup to start the third quarter, the Mavericks announced they had ruled Flagg out for the remainder of the game. The Rookie of the Year candidate sustained the injury while guarding Peyton Watson on a drive, losing his balance as he absorbed contact.
It was the second game in a row that Cooper Flagg had injured his ankle, so the Mavericks decided to keep him out. Here’s what coach Jason Kidd had to say on his star’s injury:
“He stepped on someone’s foot. Last game he twisted his ankle, too. So, they decided to hold him for the second half.”
Kidd was uncertain about Flagg’s status for the Utah game, who was listed doubtful, before being ruled out.
