LeBron James’ future with the Los Angeles Lakers has been in doubt for a long time. Playing in his twilight years, the forward has carried the team for a long time, but now faces uncertainty about his duration with the franchise. The team’s governor has shared her thoughts on LBJ’s future with the Lakers.
James is playing after exercising his player option to stay with the Lakers and is worth around $55 million annually. After the current season, King James will be a free agent and open to offers from other teams. There have been several reports of the final chapter for the forward, but nothing has materialized as of yet.
Governor Jeanie Buss said, via SiriusXM NBA:
“The decision’s going to be his, he’s a free agent, and I’m sure he’s going to look at all his opportunities. Or not. Maybe he just wants to go out quietly.”
The Lakers have won Game 1 and look to advance in the playoffs and contend for another title. With Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves out of the roster, James has carried the team, but the latest updates suggest that Lakers fans might get a sense of relief before the next game.
LeBron James and Co. set the tone for Round 1
LeBron James facilitated the offense in the first round of the postseason and led the team with 13 assists. He scored 19 points and eight rebounds, and the team won 107-98. Luke Kennard led the team with 27 points, four rebounds, and three assists. The best 3-point shooter in the NBA this season has done more than just perimeter offense.
Kennard was efficient in the paint and was perfect from deep. Marcus Smart, on the other hand, brought the defensive tenacity with one steal and two blocks. He also scored 15 points and eight assists. The Lakers will look to extend their 1-0 lead in the series and win the next game to give more rest to Doncic and Reaves.
