On Sunday, Anthony Davis found out that his team was getting a significant talent upgrade after the Washington Wizards won the NBA draft lottery. The no. 1 pick in next month’s draft will be a huge addition to a Wizards squad that already has veteran stars Davis and Trae Young, as well as promising talents like Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George.
Instead of conveying a straightforward reaction, however, Davis decided to go the cryptic route. On Instagram, the 10-time All-Star posted a set of laughing emojis without offering any sort of context.
Naturally, netizens were buzzing with speculations surrounding the true meaning of Anthony Davis’ IG story. Some of them didn’t even try to guess what Davis intended to say, instead just having fun with the entire situation.
“Anthony Davis is laughing at the Lakers”
“He just found out he got traded to the Jazz.”
“I hope he didn’t broke his hand when he were typing”
“I know a Shao Kahn Laugh when i see one”
“Laughing cause he will be traded within the next 2 seasons”
“He’s laughing at Dybantsa finding out the Wizards got the #1 pick”
Heading into the draft lottery, the Wizards were tied with the Indiana Pacers and the Brooklyn Nets for the best odds at landing the no. 1 selection. However, as the lottery progressed, both the Pacers and the Nets fell out of the top four.
Washington, meanwhile, had the good fortune of winning it all. Now, they have the opportunity to add a highly touted recruit like AJ Dybantsa or Darryn Peterson to their ranks.
“The Key to Getting the No. 1 Pick”: Viral Tweets Credits Anthony Davis for Three NBA Teams’ Good Fortune in Draft Lottery
Ironically, Anthony Davis himself has been touted as a source of good fortune in the draft lottery. A viral tweet claimed that the New Orleans Pelicans, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Washington Wizards all got the no. 1 pick in the NBA draft after trading Davis.
It should be pointed out, however, that the Pelicans had already drafted Zion Williamson first overall in the 2019 draft weeks before they announced that Davis had been traded to the LA Lakers.
