Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Frustration Boils Over as He Throws Teammates Under the Bus With ‘Selfish’ Accusation

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks again suffered a humiliating loss (102-122) against the Oklahoma City Thunder on January 21 at Fiserv Forum. In their last home game, the Bucks were exposed by the Minnesota Timberwolves without Anthony Edwards in the roster, 106-139. The frustration was clearly visible when Giannis talked to the media after the game.

The Greek Freak has had an underwhelming 2025-26 season by his standards, averaging 28.2 points and 9.9 rebounds. On top of that, a lack of chemistry within the team was evident, and now the explosive forward’s statement might have highlighted deeper issues in the locker room.

Responding to the media about the loss, the 10-time All-Star said:

“We’re not playing hard. We’re not playing to win. We’re not playing together. Our chemistry’s not there. Guys are being selfish. Guys trying to do it on their own. Right now I think we just don’t get it. We got 39 games left, we don’t have time. We really don’t.”

Since the Bucks just avoided a loss against the LA Lakers, the last time they met, the team went on a spree of losses. After three back-to-back losses, the Bucks managed to register a win against the Hawks, but are again on the losing track.

Although Giannis Antetokounmpo highlighted the deeper issues after the last game, there were signs in the team’s offensive plays lately.

Are the Bucks playing “selfish,” as highlighted by Giannis Antetokounmpo?

Fans and analysts have pointed out a lack of rhythm and trust within the Bucks squad in the previous few games. Giannis, who mostly attempts more than 18 field goals in a game, has been away from the ball in some crucial plays. Even though he shot with an efficiency of more than 72% from the field in the last game, he scored just 19 points in 11 FGA.

The team’s defense has also suffered, slipping to the 16th spot in defensive rating (117.1). Moreover, Kyle Kuzma’s offensive slump has not helped them, as he is averaging just 12.5 points thus far. In the Thunder game, he attempted five three-pointers but didn’t make a single one of them. AJ Green has been shooting the ball well, with a good 43.7% from the 3-point line.

Giannis’ lack of buckets has coincided with the Bucks’ losing run, and it might be a concern for head coach Doc Rivers. With talks around his trade intensifying, it would get more difficult for the team further into the season.
