“I’m Basically the All-Time Leader in Everything”: Giannis Antetokounmpo Refuses to Take It on the Chin in Bold Message to Bucks Fans After Booing at Fiserv Forum

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been a Buck his entire career in the NBA, and, however unfair it may sound, he was subjected to booing by the home crowd at Fiserv Forum recently. The Milwaukee Bucks suffered a blowout loss against the in-form Minnesota side. And the crowd was not happy with the team’s largest deficit of the season at halftime.

The Bucks ended the halftime 45-76, matching the largest deficit of the season. The home crowd at Fiserv Forum wasn’t pleased with the team’s efforts and began booing them as they made their way back to the locker room.

In the first play back from halftime, the Greek Freak scored an and-one over Julius Randle and booed the crowd back. After the game, he was asked by the media about his actions and his mentality behind booing the home crowd. He replied:

“I’ve never been part (of that). Have I? I don’t think so. Something new for me. It doesn’t change. Its the same thing. It doesn’t matter. I thrive through adversity. I thrive when people don’t believe me.”

Moreover, Giannis Antetokounmpo emphasized his loyalty to the franchise due to his 13-year association with the team. He added:

“It does not matter. I play basketball for my teammates. I play basketball for myself and my family. When people don’t believe me, I don’t tend to be with them… And I think nobody has the right to tell me what and how I should act on the basketball court after I’ve been here for 30 years and I’m basically the all-time leader in everything.”

Giannis is on point in his statement. He holds the franchise record for most points, most points in a single game, most games played for the team, and most rebounds in a game, among others.

There are hardly any doubts about the two-time NBA MVP’s skills on the court. However, the Bucks have not been comfortable thus far, standing at a 17-23 record. Whatever condition the team might be in, the explosive forward has clarified his stance on his future with the team.

“I am not [going anywhere],” Giannis Antetokounmpo on his future with the Bucks

After the Bucks’ loss to the Golden State Warriors on January 7, Giannis Antetokounmpo was asked about his thoughts on rumors about his future. He clearly told The Athletic:

“There will never be a chance, and there will never be a moment that I will come out and say, ‘I want a trade’… I am not [going anywhere].  I am invested in this team. I want to turn this team around. I want to play good basketball. I want to be healthy. I want to help my teammates. I want to win games.”

Interestingly, before the season, Giannis was rumored to be involved in trade talks between the Bucks and the New York Knicks. However, nothing materialized as the forward has stated multiple times that he remains loyal to the franchise.
