Celtics Make “Official” Decision On Jaylen Brown As Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors Pick Up Steam

The Boston Celtics have reportedly made an “official” decision on Jaylen Brown amid Giannis Antetokounmpo trade links. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the NBA’s most successful franchise is all in on Antetokounmpo after weeks of contemplation. Windhorst reported the latest rumors early on Monday on Get Up.

“I was really skeptical that the Boston Celtics were gonna go all in on this and from what I understand, they have,” Windhorst said. “From what I understand, the Celtics and the Heat are two teams aggressively going after Giannis – I would say they’re the finalists. And if Giannis is gonna get traded in the next 24 hours, which I think is a good chance of happening. I think it’s going to be to Boston or Miami.

“The Boston thing is the one – they were very cautious about putting Jaylen Brown in this official firm offer – I believe they have. Jaylen Brown is on the table. Jaylen Brown could get traded for Giannis Antetokounmpo.”

Brown naturally makes sense as a trade candidate given his salary. The one issue behind that was whether the Bucks would accept a direct trade and have Brown become the franchise centerpiece. Many predicted they would rebuild, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Insider Marc Stein reported that Milwaukee is willing to go for a direct trade.

“If the Bucks indeed choose Boston’s offer over Miami’s, sources say now, Milwaukee ownership’s insistence on getting a bonafide star (Jaylen Brown) back for Giannis would be among the deciding factors … as much as the Bucks want to hold two lottery picks in Tuesday’s draft,” Stein wrote on X on Monday.

Jaylen Brown’s Celtics Tenure Will End Regardless Of Whether Celtics Acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo Without Him: Report

Brian Windhorst reported that Jaylen Brown’s Celtics tenure will end one way or another, even if he doesn’t go to Milwaukee in a straight swap for Giannis Antetokounmpo. During his appearance on Get Up, Windhorst said the Celtics will trade him elsewhere.

If they don’t, Boston would have a top-heavy payroll with Antetokounmpo, Brown, and Jayson Tatum making $173.8 million among them. It could severely handicap the Celtics’ ability to build a team around their big three.

Brown will attract plenty of interest in such a scenario. The Clippers have been mentioned as suitors for the Celtics star. They make a compelling case, especially if they choose to retain Kawhi Leonard and continue to compete in the West.
