2026 NBA Draft Predictions: Who Could Go No. 1? Could Giannis Antetokounmpo Get Traded and More

The 2026 NBA draft is finally here, and across this two-night event, fans could finally have answers to burning questions.

From draft-night trades to prized selections in a loaded class, the landscape of the NBA may very well be in for an overhaul this week. All it takes is one seismic move to set off a domino effect altering the fate of several other teams across the league.

Here are four predictions for this year’s edition of the NBA draft.

Who Could the Washington Wizards Pick With the No. 1 Selection?

By all indications, AJ Dybantsa will be the first member of the 2026 draft class to share the stage with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. According to a report by NBA insider Brett Siegel last week, the Washington Wizards sent “strong signals” to Dybantsa’s camp that they’d be taking the BYU star first overall.

For his part, Dybantsa has stated that he’d “fit in” with the Wizards’ young core, which includes Kyshawn George and Alex Sarr. At this point, any other pick made by the Wizards at No. 1 (even if they’re named Darryn Peterson or Cam Boozer) would be a shocker.

Could Giannis Antetokounmpo Get Traded in a Draft-Night Deal?

For the past several months, Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors have consumed the waking hours of NBA fans. While Anteteokounmpo deal did not materialize last offseason, or even during the Feb. 5 trade deadline earlier this year, it would appear that the time is ripe for the Greek Freak to be on the move.

This past weekend, insider Marc Stein reported that the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics are locked in a “race” to land Antetokounmpo. The first night of the draft could be the night that the blockbuster news of an Antetokounmpo trade finally gets broken, especially because both the Heat and the Celtics have a first-round pick that they can include in a package.

Could Some Other All-Star Find Himself on the Move?

Antetokounmpo isn’t the only big name figuring in trade speculations. There are a number of NBA teams who could be looking to change things up this offseason.

Instead of a Giannis trade, the draft night deal grabbing headlines could be one that involves Jaylen Brown, Jalen Duren, or De’Aaron Fox. Teams that own plenty of draft capital may pull the trigger and send shockwaves across the league this week.

Which Teams Could Trade Up and Trade Down?

Given that this draft is loaded, teams have more incentive to trade up. According to multiple reports, the OKC Thunder are looking to package the No. 12 pick (acquired from the Clippers) and the No. 17 pick (coming by way of the Sixers) in order to get their hands on an even higher selection. Thunder GM Sam Presti certainly has the know-how to pull this off with one of the lottery teams.

On the other hand, Siegel has reported that the Golden State Warriors could be looking to trade down. While this team has long been linked to Arizona standout Brayden Burries, it’s possible that they’ll part ways with their No. 11 pick, acquire an asset or two, and make a draft selection later on.
