Mikel Brown Jr. Gives Crucial Injury Update With NBA Draft Around The Corner

Louisville court general Mikel Brown Jr. is projected as a high lottery pick in this year’s NBA draft. Brown’s scoring and playmaking skills have piqued the interest of scouts, but the back injury that ended his college career appears to be a red flag.

Appearing on SportsCenter this past Sunday, Brown gave a crucial update on his injury, dispelling the notion that it was a major talking point among teams that he’d been engaging with before the draft.

“Everything has been cleared now by the doctors. I feel great, I feel healthy. I feel back to where I was before the season started.”

Brown, a 6-foot-5 Orlando native, added that teams were more interested in discussing how he could create for himself and for others, should he become part of their system.

When healthy this past season, Brown was a versatile combo guard with a proficient pull-up jumper and great finishes at the rim. Averaging 18.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game, Brown can make quick reads when he’s going downhill.

Across different mock drafts, Brown has been projected to come off the board at No. 6 or No. 7. Both the Brooklyn Nets and the Sacramento Kings (who hold the sixth and seventh picks, respectively) could use a solid point guard who can both distribute the ball and get buckets consistently.

Interestingly, it appears that Mikel Brown Jr. doesn’t expect to fall to the seventh pick. According to insider Jake Fischer, Brown (along with fellow lottery prospect Keaton Wagler) has cancelled his workout with the Sacramento Kings.

Fischer added that Brown and Wagler expect to be, in some order, the No. 5 and No. 6 picks in this year’s draft.
