In the aftermath of the Sixers’ Game 7 victory over the Celtics, Jaylen Brown has dealt with the emotional backlash of blowing a 3-1 series lead and having an early playoff exit. Going on a live stream after the conclusion of the series, Brown minced no words as he took a shot at the Sixers’ main man in the do-or-die game.
Joel Embiid may have posted stellar numbers Saturday night, but that didn’t spare him from the verbal wrath of the former Finals MVP.
“Flopping has ruined our game. Joel Embiid is a great player, one of the best bigs in f**king basketball history…he flops. He knows it, this ain’t breaking news.”
Elsewhere in this live stream, Jaylen Brown did give the Sixers their flowers for closing out the series.
“Game 7 was crazy energy. [We] came up short. Give credit to the Philadelphia 76ers. Nick Nurse, great coach. Tyrese Maxey, Paul George, I watched them get better as the series went on.”
Brown, who finished with 33 points, nine rebounds, and four assists in the absence of the injured Jayson Tatum, also said that the Sixers getting Embiid back in the series was a “problem.” In the end, Embiid’s timely return and Tatum’s left knee stiffness prior to Game 7 were major factors in the outcome of the series.
“They Clearly Had an Agenda”: Jaylen Brown Blasts Referees for Officiating in Celtics-Sixers Series
Aside from Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown also vented his ire on the referees. In Brown’s view, the referees had targeted him throughout the Celtics-Sixers series.
“They clearly had an agenda. Maybe because I was so critical of the refs in the regular season.”
Brown went on to claim that he’d spoken to some referees, who supposedly confirmed that there was a motion to keep calling fouls on him every time he “puts his hands up.” Whether or not there was an “agenda” against Brown, the Celtics will now have to watch the rest of the playoffs at home as the Sixers go on to face the Knicks in the next round.
