An X account, named Gene Parmesan, recently claimed that Anthony Edwards donated his game check to ICE operations. The tweet caused a furore on social media, given the circumstances in Minneapolis.
The shootings of two U.S. citizens by immigration enforcement officers have triggered large-scale protests and public outcry in Minneapolis.
“BREAKING: Anthony Edwards has donated yesterday’s game check, $514k to ICE. Joe Biden let in 20 million illegals. ICE is helping keep America safe and deserves full funding,” the tweet read.
However, there is no truth to the claim. The name “Gene Parmesan” belongs to a character from the TV show Arrested Development. Moreover, according to fact-checking website Lead Stories, the account is run by a writer for The Simpsons, who regularly posts satirical content online.
After the post appeared on X, fans raised questions about the authenticity of the claim.
One fan sarcastically called out the user behind the post and wrote:
“Must be hard to get attention on X without propaganda huh Gene”
The original account replied to the comment and wrote:
“no it’s actually pretty easy
I just do it bc I’m BORED”
Edwards was drafted first overall in 2020 and has been an offensive asset to the team from Day 1.
Moreover, the 3-time NBA All-Star has often shown his love for the home crowd. After the team’s last win against the Dallas Mavericks, he was asked about his views on the current situation.
“I just love Minnesota” – Anthony Edwards opens up about the Minneapolis protests
Even though the streets of Minneapolis are filled with protests and unrest, the Wolves’ current run might have given fans something to look forward to. They have now won two consecutive games after a five-game losing streak, as Julius Randle led the team to victory, with 31 points, five rebounds, four assists, and one steal.
Edwards, who scored 20 points, six rebounds, and six assists, had a short session with the media after the game, during which he was asked about his thoughts on the Minnesota protests. The guard said:
“Man I just love Minnesota, all the love and support they show me, so I’m behind them. I’m behind whatever they with. I don’t really have social media so I’m not in tune with everything. I’ve heard about the stuff going on. Me and my family are definitely praying for everyone”
All things aside, Anthony Edwards has taken the Wolves to new heights since his arrival. Randle has added a veteran presence to a talented young core. Edwards is averaging a career-high 29.4 points as the team ranks No. 6 in the Western Conference.
