On Wednesday, Devin Booker got a bizarre call when he was whistled for a technical foul after inadvertently hitting Jaylin Williams with the ball. With the Phoenix Suns squad to avoid an 0-2 hole in their series against the OKC Thunder, Booker had his working boots on as he tried to save the ball from going out of bounds in that third-quarter sequence.
After the Suns lost 120-107 in Game 2, Booker criticized the referees in his post-game media session. In response, the league fined Booker $35,000 but also rescinded the technical foul whistled on him after his minor incident with Williams.
It did not take long for fans to react to this set of circumstances that Devin Booker got entangled in.
“So Booker was right and you still fined him? F*** you. Adam Silver proving once again he has more respect for the referees than the players and fans.”
“They rescind his T yet fine him for speaking about it. If only they decided to hold their refs accountable”
“fined bro for telling the truth”
“Classic. Admit yall are wrong for once”
“Your officiating is garbage. Your games are rigged, your league is trash, and you wonder why your TV rating is tanking”
“Where the F’s the nba refs accountability here? Can’t mess with these mfs FR”
Though the defending champions are heavily favored in this first-round series, the Suns have not backed down, with veterans like Booker and Dillon Brooks leading the charge.
With the series shifting to Phoenix, the Suns will have to maintain their composure as OKC looks to take care of business on the road.
“I Am 100% Behind Devin Booker Here”: Suns Owner Mat Ishbia Expresses Support for Franchise Player Amidst Officiating Controversy
As far as Suns owner Mat Ishbia is concerned, Devin Booker had every right to criticize the officials after Game 2.
“I am 100% behind Devin Booker here. Last night was not a good look for our league. Let me be clear, we didn’t lose because of officiating, but that doesn’t make last night any less important,” Ishbia tweeted.
Ishbia, who took over the Suns franchise in early 2023, added that referees must be “held accountable” for their subpar officiating in Game 2.
