Dennis Schroder’s day began with devastating news from the NBA, as the league announced a three-game suspension for him due to an off-court altercation with Luka Doncic. And the Sacramento Kings guard was quick to comment on the league’s decision.
The issue began when the two teams met on December 29. Although the Lakers comfortably registered a 125-101 win, Doncic was seen continuously chirping with the German over his failed contract negotiations with the Lakers.
The team reportedly offered Schroder a four-year, $84 million deal in 2021, which he allegedly declined to test the free agency. Even though he has refused any such claims, Doncic was all over him, referring to that story.
The news of the suspension was shared by ESPN analyst Shams Charania on social media, informing that the decision was due to an off-court face-off between the two, where Schroder reportedly attempted to hit Doncic.
The German was in the comments section soon after. He commented on the post, with an eye emoji and a laughing emoji, writing:
“Attempting”
While the reply was short and open-ended, Dennis Schroder might be insinuating that he actually hit Luka Doncic instead of just “attempting.” However, the Kings guard won’t be able to play the next game against the Lakers due to suspension, leaving him with the only chance to exact on-court revenge against Doncic in their March 1 clash. Moreover, the suspension will also have a financial impact on him.
Dennis Schroder set to lose $291,807 in salary due to suspension
The decision to decline the hefty $84 million from the Lakers to test free agency did not seem to work out for Dennis Schroder. In the aftermath, he signed a one-year $5.9 million deal with the Boston Celtics and has since been part of seven different teams, earning a total of $34 million in salary.
Additionally, the suspension will take $291,807 from his payout.
Dennis Schroder and Luka Doncic are major stars outside the NBA as well. The two lead their international squads, Germany and Slovenia, respectively. The two met in the quarterfinals of Eurobasket in September last year, where Schroder and Co. fended off Doncic’s record 39-point show to win the game.
