“He Got Fleeced”: Cooper Flagg Sends Fans into Frenzy After Spending $7,000 on Kon Knueppel Rookie Cards in Surprising Collector Move

NBA fans are not happy with Cooper Flagg’s latest purchases. Flagg, during a segment with Topps, purchased multiple autographed cards featuring Kon Knueppel.

The Dallas Mavericks rookie paid $7,000 for the cards. The purchase drew mixed reactions from fans. Some argued that Flagg could’ve asked Knueppel to sign the cards himself. Others criticized Flagg, citing his negotiation skills.

Here are the most noteworthy fan reactions on X:

“Flagship…he got fleeced,” a fan said.

“Bro sold him like $4k-5k in Kons for $7k,” another fan wrote.

“This is an insane rip-off. Especially for a guy who could buy the cards and have them signed himself,” a fan said.

“Coop, my guy, you can literally have Kon sign them for you. You don’t have to spend money on his auto cards. But I’m sure 7k ain’t gonna hurt his pocket at all,” one fan opined.

“Paying a premium for autographs he can get for free,” a fan wrote.

Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel were teammates at Duke University, playing their only season of collegiate basketball together.

Flagg averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game for the Blue Devils and went on to be drafted with the No. 1 pick. Knueppel, meanwhile, averaged 14.4 ppg, 4.0 rpg and 2.7 apg in college and was drafted at No. 4 by the Charlotte Hornets.

Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel are leading the charge for Rookie of the Year

Even before he had played a single game in the NBA, many expected Cooper Flagg to be in the Rookie of the Year debate, such was the weight of the expectations placed on the No. 1 pick. But to the surprise of many, Kon Knueppel is also firmly in the race to win the award against his teammate from Duke.

Flagg has helped the Mavericks avoid a total collapse this season, leading them to 12th place in the West with a 19-36 record. He is averaging 20.4 ppg, 6.6 rpg and 4.1 apg, shooting 48.2%.

On the other hand, Knueppel is averaging 19.1 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 3.5 apg, shooting 48.5%, including 43.3% from 3-point range. His solid production has uplifted the Hornets, who are in 10th place in the East with a 26-31 record.

Other rookies from the class, like VJ Edgecombe and Derik Queen, have also been solid, but Flagg and Knueppel have emerged as the frontrunners for Rookie of the Year.
