Cavaliers vs 76ers Preview and Prediction
December was a forgettable month for the Cleveland Cavaliers. A 7-7 record witnessed them stumble down to #7 in the Eastern Conference. The trend continues into the new year as well, boasting a 4-4 record so far in January.
Philadelphia, meanwhile, has performed better. The 76ers finished December with a winning record, taking seven of their 12 games, with a similar start to January. They are already 5-3 this month, picking up impressive wins over teams like the Knicks, Magic, and Raptors along the way.
The two teams last faced off on Wednesday night in Philadelphia. Joel Embiid led the Sixers with 20 points, while Paul George added 17, but it was not enough to overcome Cleveland. The Cavaliers dominated the game, cruising to a 133-107 win backed by Donovan Mitchell’s 35-point, seven-rebound and nine-assist outing.
They also met earlier this season on November 5. Even though the game was comparatively more competitive, the outcome was the same, with Cleveland clinching a 132-121 victory.
Despite being 0-2 down in the regular-season series, the Sixers are expected to have the upper hand heading into Friday’s matchup. A major factor is Cleveland’s injury concerns, as several key players are expected to miss the game, including Darius Garland, Dean Wade, Sam Merrill, Max Strus, and Chris Livingston.
Philadelphia does have a few names on the injury report as well, but Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Dominick Barlow are all listed as day-to-day and could still suit up.
Prediction: Expect the Sixers to win by 3 points.
